Department of National Defence

Great innovations have the power to change the world. But to take flight… they require real-world challenges, collaboration and determination..

To break through –  and become the inventions that will move society forward, advance technology, and allow us to leap ahead of what’s next.

Introducing IDEaS. A Department of National Defence program… connecting Canada’s toughest defence and security challenges with creative thinkers, and providing them with the resources and guidance they need to bring new solutions to light.

From initial concept, through prototype testing and development, you bring your concept to us at any stage, and keep your IP.

We’ll provide funding and feedback from military experts who will help you chart your IDEA’s path forward.

Anyone can apply. To get started, simply sign up to learn more about the challenges identified by National Defence.

Canada & Colombia: Teaming Up on Digital

This past June, Double Barrel was thrilled to be part of a Canadian trade delegation to Colombia. We explored the people, the geography and the incredible digital talent of this beautiful country – and along the way produced this mini-doc, our very first international co-production with Cali-based Mambo Estudio.

This piece highlights the incredible talent available in Colombia, and takes a look at exciting partnerships being created between our two countries in the digital industries: ICT, gaming, software and animation among them.

It also marks the beginning of our own exciting partnership with Juan & Mambo Estudio – a creative business relationship that we look forward to fostering for years to come!

Huge thank you’s to everyone involved – to  TFO Canada, ProColombia and Gateway to Trade for the opportunity to tell such a rich story, and to Juan and team for every bit of assistance along the way. It’s been an adventure and we’re looking forward to more!

Product Launch Video

BraveNewCode is a Hamilton-based software company with a huge footprint in the WordPress world. Leading up to the launch of their highly anticipated product WPtouch Pro 3, the founders decided it was time to create a snappy introduction for customers who may be new to the plugin.

We were thrilled to craft this fun animated product launch video, supporting another successful debut for WPtouch!

Program Overview

The Hamilton Code Club is a trail-blazing program that sees industry mentors introduce local youth to simple software computer programming, through a blend of interactive and hands-on training. The ultimate goal is to teach students to develop a love for the subject and begin integrating code into the classroom in a fun and engaging manner.

For many students, this introduction can open up career pathways and 21st-century learning skills.

With the tech industry in Canada expanding at a breakneck pace, Hamilton Code Clubs represents a critical link between the classroom and the real world, with mentors working to spark an interest in our youth and develop our next generation tech workforce.

At Double Barrel, we know the importance of a solid education in digital literacy for our youth. That’s why in 2015, we worked to create the #HamOnt Forever Digital Literacy fund, a Hamilton Community Foundation administered fund that will distribute grants over the next 15 years for digital literacy initiatives in the Hamilton area.

This year, we are proud to continue that legacy by providing an amazing organization like the Hamilton Code Club with this recruitment video free-of-charge, to inspire the tech community to continue to grow and help ensure that kids are realizing the amazing career opportunities around coding at a young age.

If you’re in the software industry and keen to help out, you’re in luck! They’re in need of volunteers! If you’re interested in volunteering for Hamilton Code Clubs, contact experience@iechamilton.ca

“Inspiring innovative leaders who will transform the world”
What Characteristics will define the next generation in engineering? Will it be scientific aptitude? Grasp of global issues? Entrepreneurial moxie?
At the W Booth School of Engineering Practice & Technology they believe it’s all of the above.
They came to us asking for help in telling that story, we couldn’t have been more excited. Presenting the first piece in a series of vignettes on students who are making a difference and have grand aims for the future. And with education like this we have no doubt they’ll succeed.
